<strong>Exhibit labels:</strong><br /><br />[1] Telestudy (1956). As television began to be increasingly used in the classroom, the University established facilities to experiment with teaching courses via the medium. Course topics included public speaking, art, and childhood development. Educational television at the University got another bump in 1958 when the first TV station on campus was established, WGTE-TV on Channel 30.<br /><br />[2] Rocket Choristers appear on the Ed Sullivan Show (1958). As part of their eastern tour, the Rocket Choristers, led by band director Dr. Lloyd Sunderman, appeared on national television on the Ed Sullivan Show. The Ed Sullivan Show was the longest-running variety show in TV history and at its prime drew in more than thirty-million viewers.<br /><br />[3] Pursuit of state-support (1958). Early in President Carlson's administration, he sought state support to meet the financial demands of the university. A bill was introduced into the Ohio State Legislature in 1959, where it languished for years.<br /><br />[4] Student Union Groundbreaking and Dedication (1958-1959). The student body outgrew the student union in Libbey Hall and so, in 1953, President Knowles appointed a student-faculty committee to draw up preliminary plans for a new one. It was completed in 1959 at a cost of $1.2 million.
