<strong>Exhibit labels:</strong><br /><br />[1] Presidential candidate Bill Clinton visits Toledo (1992). Still on the campaign trail in October 1992, future 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton visited Toledo. Here he is shaking hands with University of Toledo President Frank Horton. <br /><br />[2] Retirement of Medical College of Ohio President Ruppert (1993). MCO's longest-serving president, Dr. Richard Ruppert, retired in 1993, after leading medical college since 1977. Upon his retirement, the Health Center was rededicated in his name. <br /><br />[3] Toledo EXCEL first graduating class (1993). A scholarship incentive program developed as a collaboration between the University of Toledo, Toledo Public Schools, Diocesan Schools, and Owens-Corning, EXCEL started in 1988 with a goal to select local African-American, Hispanic, and Asian eighth graders to participate in the program who, after four years of college preparation, skills development, and enrichment activities would receive a full scholarship to UToledo. Dr. Helen Cooks, professor in the College of Education, created and served as director of EXCEL for many years. This first class of EXCEL students joined the program in July 1989. <br /><br />[4] Northwest Ohio Regional Book Depository (1994). Ground broke in 1994 on the Northwest Ohio Regional Book Depository, a library cooperative between the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, and the Medical College of Ohio. Established as one of several facilities in Ohio to address the need for space to shelve library collections, its 10,000 square feet warehouse has the capacity to store up to 12 million volumes. Dedication ceremonies at its Levis Development Park location in Perrysburg took place in October 1996. <br /><br />[5] UT40 Campaign (1995-1998). Launched in 1995, the $40 million fundraising campaign was based on the University's strategic plan, "UT 2000", which focused on enhancing academic programs. The campaign successfully ended in 1998, raising over $52 million.
