Hired as a part-time varsity basketball coach in 1934, Harold Anderson led the University of Toledo men's basketball team to 142 wins in eight seasons, with only 41 losses. Invited to tournaments at Madison Square Garden, Anderson's Toledo team won national acclaim.

[2] 27th Army Air Crew (1943). The university signed a contract with the War Department to house and instruct trainees from the 27th College Air Corps Training Unit. For 13 months, the university trained a total of 1,800 men, housed in the Field House, which led to the temporary suspension of basketball.

[3] Women leadership on campus (1943-1945). As the male student population decreased during World War II, women stepped into leadership roles. They served as president of the Student Council and editors of the newspaper and yearbooks. Sorority activities also increased.

[4] Nurse Cadet Training (1944). More than 300 students graduated from the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps program, a federal program that trained women to become nurses in Army field hospitals. The university provided academic training, clinical practice, and weekly military drills.

[5] Nashville (1945-1973). When President Nash learned that 40 married veterans enrolled for 1945-1946 fall term, he arranged for the purchase of trailers from the Federal Housing Authority formerly used by war industry workers at Willow Run, Michigan. Erected in 1945, 40 units stood on land that faced the south side of Campus Road facing the Field House. Tenants named the area Nashville. The trailers were still in use by married students in 1973 when they were sold to two farmers.

[6] Veterans Memorial Scholarship Fund (1945). The Veterans Club at the University of Toledo established the Veterans Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships to children of UToledo alumni killed in World War II. Their initial goal was to raise $6,000 and set up a variety of events, from variety shows to auctions to teas, to achieve that goal.
