DOERMANN THEATRE - Year of Construction: 1931; Restored and updated in 1995 for $1.75 million. Architects: Mills, Rhines, Bellman, and Nordhoff, Inc. Doermann Theater served as the auditorium in University Hall. Sixth president Henry Doermann, a Shakespearean actor and student while at the University of Minnesota, directed Hamlet for the Toledo Dramatics Association which was performed in the theater. When he died suddenly in 1932, the auditorium was renamed in his honor. It underwent a major renovation to include newer technologies, seating, and interior design. Doermann Theater remains in use today, primarily used by the Department of Music, Department of Theater and Film, and various campus organizations. The theater was last updated in 2013 to be more handicap accessible.

CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS - Year of Construction: 1977; $2.775 million. Architects: Rossi and Nickerson Inc. Originally called the Theatre Music Building, the Center for Performing Arts came about from a need to address the ''special space problems [that] arise from the philosophy and unique character of the curriculum[s]'' developed for the Music and Theater Departments, including sound isolation, acoustic, production emphasis, and technical shops for costume and stage design and development. The Center for Performing Arts was renovated in 2011 by architect Frank Gehry and now includes a recital hall, center theater, studio theater, and lab theater.
