Jesup Wakeman Scott, ca. 1872
Abstract
Description
In this pamphlet first published in 1868, Toledo real estate developer and Blade publisher, Jesup Scott, envisioned Toledo as becoming the greatest city in the world. It was this vision that compelled him to endow the university, because "[t]o fulfill its destiny, Toledo needed an institution to train its young people." in 1872, he donated 160 acres of land on Nebraska Avenue as an endowment for a university to train Toledo’s young people.
