Abstract

Description

STUDENT UNION - Year of Construction: 1959; $1 million Renovation: 1976; $3.6 million. Architects: Gillett and Richards. The purpose of the Union has not changed much over time. In its early days, Student Union held events for students: socials, mixers, and events for student organizations. The Student Union continues to hold events for students and student organizations, but now holds offices for student organizations, as well as a variety of dining options and study areas. It was renamed the Lancelot C.A. Thompson Student Union in 2016 in honor of the beloved administrator.

STUDENT RECREATION CENTER - Year of Construction: 1990; $17.25 million. Architects: Hastings & Chivetta. The Rec Center was constructed to give students an area to work out, play sporting games with friends, and host intramural sports. The Student Recreation Center includes an Olympic swimming pool, as well as a water slide for recreational use; this made The University of Toledo the first college in the United States to have a waterslide. The center still stands today with minimal changes from the original design.
