Abstract
Description
Exhibit label:

Conversion to a State University (1965-1967). For much of its history, the University of Toledo was a municipal institution, along with the University of Cincinnati and the University of Akron. That changed on July 3, 1965, when the General Assembly of Ohio approved a bill incorporating the University of Toledo into the state's higher education system, with Governor Rhodes signing the bill into law on August 12th of that year. The conversion was finalized in 1966 after being approved by the University Board of Directors, the Ohio Board of Regents, Toledo City Council, and Toledo voters, and became effective July 1, 1967.
