On the cover: "Rocky, the Rocket"
Abstract
Description
On the cover of tonight's Rocket Football Magazine is a character creation of Thomas Durnford, an artist for the past 16 years and Graphic Supervisor of the Publications Office at The University of Toledo since last March 1. The character is "Rocky, the Rocket" and he will appear in a new action sequence on all covers of the Rocket Football magazine this fall. Tonight "Rocky" is in a mood respectful of the Marines, our opening night opponent. You won't want to miss seeing who he does to other upcoming foes, however. He may be twisting the tail of the Ohio Bobcats or branding the Western Michigan Broncos or shooting down the Dayton Flyers. Rocky, the Rocket is the idea of sports publicist Max Gerber who went to artist Durnford with an appeal to create a mascot for TU teams similar to the mascots all other schools associate with their athletic teams. "Rocky" is Mr. Durnford's answer. We hope you enjoy him and adopt him as a symbol for our Rockets. Mr. Durnford is a native of Columbus, Ohio, attended North High School and Ohio State University in that city, and came to Toledo 10 years ago. He has been a professional artist during those 10 years and a graphic and commercial artist for 16 years. He joined The University of Toledo Publications Office from Len Beach Associates in Toledo.
