University Hall and Field House
Abstract
Description
UNIVERSAL HALL - Year of Construction: 1931; $1.29 million and $470,000, respectively. Architects: Mills, Rhines, Bellman, and Nordhoff, Inc. Constructed by 400 men over the course of 11 months, University Hall was the first building to break ground on the Bancroft campus. It served as an all-purpose building, with classrooms, library, colleges and administrative offices. University Hall remains the single-most recognizable landmark of the University of Toledo.

FIELD HOUSE - Field House was the second building, constructed at the same time at U-Hall, to which it was connected by a 120 feet heating tunnel. It originally served as a gymnasium. In 1976, Field House went out of commission with the construction of Centennial Hall. In 2008, it underwent a $27 million, 145,000-square-feet renovation. It now holds 54 classrooms and 70 faculty offices; the main elevator marks where the original half-court used to be.
