GILLHAM HALL - Year of Construction: 1953, $1.5 million. Architects: Bellman, Gillet, and Richards. Originally known as the Library Building, Gillham Hall housed the library and the College of Law. When the student body outgrew the building in the early 1970s, it was renovated at a cost of $400,000 and renamed Mary M. Gillham Hall in honor of the University Librarian who served the University of Toledo from 1921 to 1969. Over its lifetime, Gillham Hall housed a variety of departments and colleges, including Student Affairs, Student Records, Admissions, the College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Geology, as well as the Counseling and Testing Center, the Department of Business Education, and faculty offices. Today, Gillham Hall is home to the Judith Herb College of Education.

CARLSON LIBRARY - Year of Construction: 1972, $8 million. Architects: Munger & Munger Associates. William S. Carlson Library, named after former University President William S. Carlson, broke ground in 1970 and opened in 1973. With five floors and a lower level the size of an acre each, Carlson Library continues to serve students today. Over the years, the library underwent several updates, including a $6 million renovation in 2017. This renovation included the glass wall on the east wall that spans from the first to the fifth floors, flooding the library with natural light. The fifth floor of the library is home to the University Archives and the original library tables that furnished the University Hall library in 1931. Each table is 12' in length and had to be lifted through the windows of the library by crane.
