Abstract

Description

This paper offers three readings of the experimental performance of Implied Violence, which traffics in refusal, abjection, Otherness, and the possibility of non-being. Chambers places these readings in conversation with three different medieval negative theologians: Meister Eckhart, Hildegarde von Bingen, and Marguerite Porete. Through this exploration, Chambers draws out the parallels between apophatic spirituality and performance that Chambers calls the "theatre in absentia."
