Unfiltered radiation therapy
This is a new technique in IMRT and 3D conformal gamma radiation dose delivery using a linear accelerator with no flattening filter. The technique improves patient radiation therapy by reducing radiation scattered to surrounding normal tissue and reducing electron contamination. It increases dose rate to shorten treatment time. Linear accelerators have for decades come with a photon flattening filter to make the photon profile of planar fluence to make the dose distribution more uniform. These filters, however, resulted in fluence attenuation and contamination of the beam. Now in the age of techniques such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) the function of the flattening filter becomes redundant. The flattening filter now merely reduces the efficiency of the beam by reducing the fluence and increasing scattered radiation. Our technique involves removal of the flattening filter for complex treatments. It uses inverse planning along with multi-leaf collimators to shape the dose distribution.
Robust high temperature sulfur sorbents and methods of making the same
A sulfur sorbent composition includes a support structure and a double oxide sulfur scavenger that is supported on the support structure. The support structure may be diatomaceous earth or a zeolitic-type mineral, and the sulfur scavenger a metal and/or a metal oxide and/or a combination of two or more metal and/or oxides. The sulfur sorbent composition can be used either as a stand-alone device or in conjunction with a fuel reformer to provide a sulfur-free stream.

Improving efficacy of cancer therapy
Embodiments of the invention provide a method of improving the efficacy of an anti-cancer therapy and a method of treatment of cancer by normalizing angiogenesis in cancer. By enhancing the cell signaling pathway via a TRPV4 receptor in tumor endothelial cells, either by a TRPV4 agonist or by increasing the expression of TRPV4 in the tumor endothelial cells, the tumor endothelial cells behave normally and form normal angiogenic network for better anti-cancer therapy to the tumors.

Stable Tregs and related materials and methods
