Methods of treatment of cancer using SRC-modulating peptides
A method for regulating Src and its downstream signaling pathway which includes binding between Src and Na+/K+-ATPase is disclosed. The Na+/K+-ATPase/Src complex is a functional receptor for cardiotonic steroids such as ouabain. Also disclosed are Src inhibitors or activators which include either Na+/K+-ATPase or Src that interfere with the interaction between the Na/K-ATPase and Src, act via a different mechanism from ATP analogues, and is pathway (Na+/K+-ATPase) specific. Also disclosed is use of said Src-modulating peptides for treatment of cancer.

Expandable inter-vertebral cage and method of installing same
An inter-vertebral cage for use in repairing a damaged inter-vertebral disc includes a plurality of cage sections and a hinge element that connects adjacent ones of the cage sections together for relative movement. The hinge elements automatically urge the cage sections to move from an extended orientation to an installed orientation.
Antibacterial surfactant/microgel formulations, methods of making and methods of using the same
In a first broad aspect, described herein is an antimicrobial formulation comprised of: at least one nonionic surfactant capable of providing colloidal stability to the formulation, and at least one quaternized polymeric microgel capable of being dispersed in the nonionic surfactant. The quaternized polymeric microgel is comprised of one or more of: chitosan oligomers or chitosan polymers. Further, the antimicrobial formulation is essentially free of cationic surfactants.

Amorphous polyester from bio-based bis-furan assembly
Polymers, including Polyesters and Polycarbonates comprising residue of bis-furan diol, which is produced from renewable furfural feedstock and methods of making and using of those polyesters and polycarbonates are described. The method includes reacting a bis-furan diol with a dicarboxylic acid in the presence of a carbodiimide to produce the bis-furan containing polymers. In certain embodiments, the dicarboxylic acid is succinic acid; the bis-furan diol is the 5,5'-(propane-2,2-diyl)bis(furan-2,5-diyl) dimethanol and the carbodiimide is of N,N-diisopropylcarbodiimide.
Materials and methods for quality-controlled two-color RT-QPCR diagnostic testing of formalin fixed embedded and/or fresh-frozen samples
Described herein are materials, methods, and kits enabling accurate and reproducible two-color reverse-transcription real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) for quality-controlled molecular diagnostic testing of samples that may contain degraded RNA. In certain aspects described herein are materials, methods, and kits for use in the molecular diagnostic testing of lung cancer in FFPE samples and/or fresh-frozen samples. Minimally invasive collapsible cage
An articulating fusible support cage comprises a first support member having a first and second end and a second support member having a first and second end. A first end cap is pivotally connected to the first and second support members at the first ends. The first end cap supports a jackscrew for rotation. A second end cap is pivotally connected to the first and second support members at the second ends opposite the first ends. The second end cap has a threaded sleeve configured to engage a portion of the jackscrew. Rotation of the jackscrew into the threaded sleeve causes the first and second support members to extend outwardly from a collapsed condition to a deployed condition.

Unfiltered radiation therapy
This is a new technique of producing high energy X-rays for radiation therapy at a patient's level. The dose delivery system uses a linear accelerator with no flattening filter. The technique improves patient radiation therapy by reducing radiation scattered to surrounding normal tissue and reducing electron contamination. It increases dose rate to shorten treatment time. The flattening filter reduces the efficiency of the beam by reducing the fluence and increasing scattered radiation. This technique involves removal of the flattening filter. It uses inverse planning to shape the dose distribution.

A sample testing device includes a motor, a gear reducer, and an output shaft coupled for rotation by the motor via the gear reducer. The sample testing device further includes a first device adapted to enable the output shaft to move linearly in a first direction substantially parallel with an axis of the output shaft and a second device coupled to the first device for enabling the output shaft to move linearly in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The sample testing can further include a third device coupled to the first and second devices for enabling the output shaft to translate linearly in a third direction substantially perpendicular to the first and second directions.
